The most convenient and hassle free way to get to the Blue Mountains is via train.
Trains depart Sydney Central Station every half hour until 9am, then every hour afterwards.
The earlier you arrive in the Blue Mountains, the more time you will have to explore at your own pace and see more.
We have buses departing Katoomba every hour from 9am – Hop on… You’ll love it!
The best trains to catch from Sydney Central Station to allow for maximum sightseeing in the Blue Mountains are:

The train journey is relaxing and offers some stunning views along the way, as you climb towards the Blue Mountains, and you don’t need to worry about parking, you’ll arrive relaxed and ready to explore.
You will need to purchase an Opal Card to for your train journey.
You can pick one up at Sydney’s Central Station or one of the many Opal card retailers around Sydney. The Opal Card fare will cost you a maximum of $15.80 return. Find out more information about Opal Card.
Grab a seat on the upper level, on left hand side, and you can enjoy views like no other.
Such as the view down Glenbrook Gorge, a 200-metre deep canyon of orange sandstone cliffs which opens up on the left soon after you cross the Nepean River.
As you climb higher, look to the right for spectacular views over rippled mountain ridges.
And when your coming into Leura, again look to the left to feast your eyes on the magnificent escarpment view of Mount Solitary, perhaps still wearing its skirt of early morning mist.

When you get off the train, walk straight down the ramp and turn right following the “Blue Mountains Explorer Bus” signs. Our booking office is at the top of the railway station steps.
Collect your Explorer Bus Pass and free Guidebook from our smiling reception staff, perhaps grab a coffee or some picnic supplies, then hop on and start exploring!
Katoomba offers free all-day parking, allowing you to explore the scenic bush walks in between stops, have a beer with lunch, and not have to worry about parking at each of the wonderful lookouts and attractions around the Blue Mountains.
Getting here is simple. The M4 Motorway, becomes the Great Western Highway and leads straight to the Blue Mountains. Parking is available for free in the Railway Station Car Park in Goldsmith Place, Katoomba. Then simply walk through the Railway Subway and up the steps on the other side. Our booking office is located directly at the top of the railway station steps.
