Blue Mountains Cultural Centre

Shopping, Art & Culture

This excellent gallery and museum is for anyone who loves art and culture – and good coffee. Discover the latest work by Blue Mountains artists, check out the range of excellent travelling exhibitions, and explore the wonderful World Heritage Exhibition.

The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre opened in 2012, and this beautiful new building has given our vibrant, artsy home town Katoomba an awesome place to hang out.

The guaranteed don’t-miss attraction here is the World Heritage Exhibition. After a walk through this awesome interactive museum, you’ll take home a deep appreciation of the history, nature and Aboriginal culture of the Blue Mountains. If we had to pick a favourite feature, it would have to be the wall of stunning images by local photographers. This is a great place to finish up an invigorating day out in the Blue Mountains, before catching the train back to Sydney.

It’s always worth checking in to see what’s hanging in the Blue Mountains City Art Gallery. This is part of a network of major regional galleries, and we’ve seen some really great art exhibitions featuring major Australian painters like Brett Whiteley and Arthur Boyd.

The Katoomba library is also in the same building, and the picture windows, with a great the town and mountains beyond are a great place to connect to the free wifi signal. And don’t miss the view from the outside lookout.

Before you leave, check out the cafe and shop here. The food and coffee are excellent, and you can pick up some interesting gifts and souvenirs, including quality craft products made by Blue Mountains artisans.
