Explorer Bus History

The first ever Explorer bus in the Blue Mountains ran in April 1986 carrying one passenger on its maiden voyage. Originally it operated in a single deck coach and only on weekends and public holidays. Over the years as popularity of the Explorer Bus grew the route was modified, new stops added and the first double deck bus was introduced in 1995. Still back then it was only one bus operating the entire circuit offering an hourly service. Today the Explorer Bus has grown into an operation with several double decker buses, depending on demand on the day running anything from 3 to 7 buses on the route.

The company behind the Explorer Bus commenced in 1974, originally Katoomba Scenic Tours, then; Golden West Tours and since 1988 now known as Fantastic Aussie Tours. Operating day tours, local bus and coach charter and extended tours right around Australia.
